Durham Huskies Last Game an Overwhelming Victory
Submitted By Tania MacArthur on Tuesday, March 15, 2011
In atom local league the Durham Huskies hosted visiting Minto.  Both teams from Minto have continuously beaten Durham and the Huskies have remained winless against Mintos faster and harder checking teams.  However the Huskies rose to the challenge and applied these tactics of close hard checking against Minto.

In the first period both teams played hard to control the play and at 8:20 Mintos Alex Mock grabbed a  loose puck and scored on a high shot assited by Brooke Drost and Tyler Canning.  Durham tightened their defense and their forwards started tying up Mintos forwards in mid ice to stop Mintos scoring chances for the rest of the period.
As the second period got underway it seemed Minto was outpacing the Huskies as they scored at 6:23 on a high shot by Alex Mock.  But as the period progressed the Huskies got back on their game plan and started closing down any scoring chances for Minto.  Their hard work paid off when a mid ice turn over allowed Huskies Jarrett Hooper to skate through the Minto defense and scored unassisted on a hard wrist shot.  However Minto scored on a scramble in front of the Huskies net at 1:01 The goal went to William Denison assisted by Payton Noble.
In the third period Durham kept their game play alive by counterchecking Minto, and stopping their offense.  At 14:18 Huskies Benjamin Farmer wrestled the puck away from Minto and charged to the net scoring on a low shot to the corner unassisted.  The Huskies rebounded with another quick shot that found the back of the net at 7:05 by Skylar Filsinger assisted by Darcy Hooper.  With a tie game, the Huskies kept a close rein on the Minto offense by checking their key scorers, and clearing the puck quickly up the ice.  At 5:49 Jarrett Hooper stopped a Minto play by holding his position on defense and moved quickly up ice shooting from the Minto blue line.  His shot caught the Minto goalie out of position and gave the Huskies the go ahead goal.  As the period wound down Durham kept the pressure on Minto by checking hard and keeping the play away from the Huskies net.  A few prime scoring chances came Mintos way,  but the Huskies pressure kept Minto scoreless.  Another classic nail biter of a game ended with a well deserved win by the Huskies as the pulled together as a team and won 4 to 3 over Minto.
