Ayton holds on to Win 7 to 6 over Durham Huskies
Submitted By Tania MacArthur on Tuesday, March 01, 2011
In Atom local league Ayton faced off with the Huskies on home ice.  Ayton came prepared to win and in the first period that is exactly what they were doing after scoring 4 goals to Durhams one.  At 8:23 Aytons Riley Herman scored unassisted on a breakaway goal.  Minutes later Ayton scored again on a breakaway by Noah Serro.  However Huskies Mitchell McNabb scored on a high shot assisted by Lukas Wright and Skylar Filsinger.  Aytons Kirk Meugge scored at 3:09 assisted by Taylor Morin and Max Davis.  With 35 seconds left in the period Aytons Riley Herman scored assisted by Max Davis and Kirk Meugge.

In the second period Ayton continued their scoring but only managed to score once when at 4:12 Kirk Meugge put the puck in the net assisted by Max Davis.  The Huskies had put the brakes on Aytons scoring opportunities by close forechecking by their offense which stopped Ayton from capitalizing on any loose pucks or turn overs.
In the third period the Huskies scored five goals getting them back into the game.  Both teams continued to battle hard for the puck and at 13:36 Aytons Kirk Meugge scored assisted by Max Davis.  However at this point the Huskies close checking started to disrupt the Ayton team and the scoring frenzy started for the Huskies.  At 7:54 Owen Schenk scored unassisted on a breakaway.  At 5:21 Jarrett Hooper scored for Durham assisted by Jordan Snow and Kurtis Watson.  At 3:41 Owen Schenk scored assisted by Jarrett Hooper.  The Huskies were like sharks at feeding time.  They were all over Ayton and with 35 seconds to go Mitchell McNabb scored assisted by Darcy Hooper and Owen Schenk.  And with 14 seconds left Darcy Hooper scored assisted by Owen Schenk.  In a classic nail biter of a game Ayton held on to win 7 to 6.  The Huskies rally and comeback had come very close to tie the game.  Indeed, the Huskies can play hockey wiht the best of teams.  Keep up the good work!!
