
Durham Atom Huskies edge Wallace 5 to 2
Durham Atom Huskies were happy to have Darcy Hooper back on the ice after a long period absence due to a broken collarbone. With a full team once again the Huskies were poised to be a forminable opponent against the powerful Wallace team.
In the first period the Huskies came out fast and dominated the play for most of the period keeping the Wallace goalie busy and the Wallace defense skating hard to shut down the Huskies scoring opportunities. The Huskies penned the Wallace team in their own end but the Wallace goalie kept them at bay for the duration of the first period.
In the second period Huskies Skylar Filsinger opened the scoring at 8:16 when he scored on a loose puck in front of the Wallace net. With mounting pressure the Wallace team were bound to make a mistake as the Huskies kept coming on strong. With 26 seconds left in the second period Huskies Alex Hastie scored on a shot which veered off a Wallace players stick into their own net. It was apparent the Wallace team were tired and making mistakes.
In the third period Durhams Nick Kilpatrick high shot the corner skimmed the post giving the Huskies a growing margin over Wallace. But Wallace wasn't prepared to be denied a goal in this game and mere moments later at 14:42 Logan Millar scored a high wrist shot. At this point in the game both teams were determined to win. Wallace caught their second wind and came on strong but the Huskies defense held the line and the forwards backchecked at every opportunity to deny Wallace any breakaways. As the game was windng down Jarrett Hooper scored on a pass from Darcy Hooper and Zach MacArthur at 3:09. At 2:45 Wallaces Lucas Millerscored on a low shot to the corner of the Huskies net. But this game belonged to the Huskies as Jarrett Hooper scored his second goal of the game at 1:12 assisted by Aydin Elliott. Now that the playoff games have started the Huskies have their team back to full strength.
