Midget LL Huskies Start 2010 with a Silver in Beeton Tournament
Submitted By Holly Stevens on Wednesday, January 13, 2010
The Durham Furniture Midget LL Huskies started off 2010 with a tournament in Beeton on Jan. 3, in which they did exceptionally well in all three of their games.

Their first game of the day was a very well played game against Erin Hillsburg 1.
In the first period, Erin Hillsburg began the scoring, but shortly after, Seth DeBoer scored, assisted by Nate McGuigan to tie the score 1-1.
In the second period, the Huskies broke the tie when Travis Marshall scored, assisted by Luke Ronka, but Erin Hillsburg came back and tied the game again. Shortly after this, Chris Giles scored, assisted by Nathan Thompson, making the score 3-2 for the Huskies.
Then in the third period DeBoer scored again, assisted by McGuigan, for the Huskies to take a 4-2 lead. Erin Hillsburg then got one more goal in an attempt to catch up, but Ronka scored one more for the Huskies, assisted by Marshall, to make the final score 5-3 for the Huskies.
The Huskies second game was a very close game against Woolwich.
In the first period the Huskies began the scoring when Brandon Stevens scored, assisted by Cole Hollands and Giles, but just over a minute later Woolwich tied it up. Then DeBoer scored, assisted by Hollands and broke the tie for a whole minute and a half before Woolwich tied the score again.
The 2-2 tie lasted through both the second and third periods causing the game to go into five minute overtime. At first it looked as if nobody was going to score, but with just over a minute left in overtime, DeBoer scored, assisted by Ronka and Hunter Burgess, to give the Huskies the 3-2 win over Woolwich that sent them to the championship game.
In the championship game the Huskies faced the home team, Beeton. The Huskies were defeated 4-1 in the end with the lone goal being scored by Burgess, assisted by Giles and McGuigan, giving the Huskies the silver for coming in second place overall in the tournament. Great goaltending throughout the day by Justin Paylor and Spencer Bristow. Congratulations on an awesome day of hockey, Huskies!
