Midget LL Huskies Off to a Good Start
On Oct. 25, the Durham Midget LL Huskies began their 2009/2010 season, which got off to a good start. For their first game, they travelled to Wiarton to face the Wild.
In the first period, the Huskies took the lead when Cayle Anderson scored the first goal of the season, assisted by Kyle Schieven and Seth DeBoer. Goaltender Justin Paylor was great in net, as he managed to keep the Wild from getting any goals.
Then in the second period, the Wild tied up the game with a power play goal, but this did not last long, as the Huskies succeeded to score two more goals and retake the lead 3-1, just near the end of the period. One goal was scored by DeBoer, assisted by Brandon Stevens and the other was scored by Chris Giles, assisted by Nate McGuigan and Travis Marshall.
The Wild only achieved one more goal in the third period and the Huskies defeated the Wild, 3-2.
Next, the Huskies faced the Chatsworth Rebels, at home, on Oct. 26 and after a well played game, the game ended in a 1-1 tie. The Huskies lone goal was scored by Ben Dow, unassisted. Goaltender Spencer Bristow made a lot of great saves in net, to prevent the Rebels from getting any more goals after their first.
After that, the Huskies travelled to Shallow Lake to face the Lakers, on Nov. 1 and although the Huskies tried hard, they lost the game 3-2. Goals for the Huskies were scored by DeBoer, assisted by Cole Hollands and Hollands, unassisted.
Lastly, the Huskies went up against the Wiarton Wild once again, at home, on Nov. 2.
The Huskies came out strong in the first period, and scored four goals. Goal scorers were DeBoer (2), Dow, and Jason Paylor, with assists by Hollands, Jesse Genereux, Nathan Thompson, Luke Ronka, and Dow. The Wild also got their first and only goal of the game, preventing Bristow from getting a shutout and making the score 4-1 for the Huskies.
In the second period, Marshall scored for the Huskies, assisted by Hunter Burgess and Anderson, followed by a goal by Hollands, assisted by Stevens.
The Huskies then got one more in the third period, scored by Thompson and assisted by Giles, for the Huskies to take the 7-1 win over the Wild. Way to go Huskies!
