
Great Week for Midget LL Huskies
The Midget LL Huskies continued in their playoffs this past week, winning three out of four games.
The Huskies first game of the week was in Hanover, against the Falcons, on Feb. 23.
In the first period the Falcons took a 2-0 lead over the Huskies to start, but just near the end of the period Nathan Thompson put in the Huskies first goal, assisted by Kyle Green and Curtis Caswell.
In the second period both teams took turns scoring goals. The Falcons scored another, followed by Matt Surridge getting the Huskies’ second, assisted by Green and Thompson. Then the Falcons scored again, but Caswell scored next, assisted by Dylan Cremona and Brandon Stevens. After this the Falcons got their fifth goal just before Stevens scored, unassisted, to end the period 5-4 for the Falcons.
In the third period the Huskies came out to win and dominated the period by scoring three more goals. Their final three goals were scored by Green, Thompson, and Surridge, with assists by Luke Ronka, Surridge (2), Stevens, and Green, making the final score 7-5 for the Huskies.
Next, the Huskies faced the Normanby Wildcats, at home, on Feb. 24.
The first period began with the Huskies taking the early lead when Cremona got the first goal, assisted by J.J. Mallozzi. However, the Wildcats got their first and tied it up near the end of the period.
The only goal of the second was scored by Green, assisted by Mallozzi and goalie Justin Paylor, to regain the lead.
In the third period the Wildcats retied the game, then took the lead. Shortly after, Caswell tied up the game again, assisted by Green and Cayle Anderson, followed by a goal from Surridge assisted by Green and Caswell, to take the lead back. After this, the Wildcats scored two more goals to get the lead for a final time before the Huskies got three more goals. These goals were scored by Ronka, unassisted, Surridge assisted by Caswell, and Green assisted by Caswell and Surridge, to take the 7-5 win.
The Huskies third game of the week was against the Mildmay Monarchs, at home, on Feb. 26, where the Huskies were defeated for the first time since their playoffs began. The Huskies tried hard, but the Monarchs got the 5-4 win in the end. Goal scorers for the Huskies were Chris Giles, Green, Cremona, and Mallozzi, with assists going to Cremona, Stevens (2), Ronka, Caswell, and Green.
Finally, the Huskies travelled to Ayton to face the Normanby Wildcats once again, on Feb. 28.
The Huskies managed to get a 9-4 win against the Wildcats, with seven of the Huskies goals being scored by Green, and the other two being scored by Giles and Surridge, with assists by Mallozzi (3), Green, Stevens, Giles, Cremona, Surridge, and Anderson.
