Midget LL Huskies Wrap Up Regular Season and Begin Playoffs
Submitted By Darlene Melanson on Tuesday, February 24, 2009
Recently, the Midget LL Huskies played their last three regular season games, winning one and losing two. Then they began their playoffs and won their first two games.

First, the Huskies faced the Normanby Wildcats, at home, on Feb. 3, and managed to defeat them in a very close game.
Early in the first period, Kyle Green scored the Huskies first goal, assisted by Curtis Caswell, but right at the end of the period, the Wildcats tied it up.
In the second period, Caswell broke the tie, with assists by Green and Nathan Thompson. After that, Green scored another, assisted by Caswell and Nathan McGuigan, which was followed by the Wildcats getting one more before the end of the period.
In the third period, the Wildcats tied up the game again, but Green scored one more goal near the end of the period, assisted by Caswell and Matt Surridge, giving him a hat trick and giving the Huskies the 4-3 win.
Next, the Huskies travelled to Mildmay to face the Mildmay Monarchs, on Feb. 9, and were defeated 5-3 after a hard fought game. Goals for the Huskies were scored by J.J. Mallozzi, Caswell, and Thompson, with assists by Green (2) and Brandon Stevens.
In their final regular season game, on Feb. 10, the Huskies went up against the Shallow Lake Lakers, at home, and even though they had taken the early lead, they were defeated 7-6 in the end. The Huskies first five goals were scored, astonishingly, by Green throughout the first and second periods, with the last being scored by Mitch Elvidge. Assists went to Caswell (2), Ken Campbell (3), Luke Ronka, Thompson, and Mackenzie Wright.
Then playoffs began. The Huskies first game was in Lion’s Head against the Wiarton Wild, on Feb. 20.
In the first period, Green started the scoring, unassisted. Then the Wild tied it up shortly after, but Mallozzi broke the tie just near the end of the period, assisted by Chris Giles, to give the Huskies the lead again.
In the second period the Wild tied the game for the second time before Thompson scored, assisted by Surridge, to end the period 3-2 for the Huskies.
The third period began with the Wild tying the game again. Then Caswell scored, assisted by Ronka, followed by Ronka scoring, unassisted, for the Huskies to take a 5-3 lead over the Wild. The Wild scored once more and Surridge scored the Huskies final goal, assisted by Caswell and Green, to give the Huskies the 6-4 win. Wonderful team effort boys!
The Huskies next playoff game took place in Port Elgin against the Saugeen Shores Storm, on Feb. 21.
The first period began with Green scoring the first goal, of course, assisted by Elvidge and Ronka. Next Mallozzi put one in, assisted by McGuigan. After that the Storm scored their first, which was followed by another by Green, assisted by Mallozzi, giving the Huskies a 3-1 lead.
The Storm tied the game up in the second period by scoring two goals, but in the third period, Green scored his hat trick goal, assisted by Surridge, just before the Storm tied the game once more. After that Green scored the winning goal, assisted by Caswell, with only 5 seconds left in the period, giving the Huskies the 5-4 win! Keep up the good work Huskies!
