The Peewee Huskies completed their group play-offs round robin series Tuesday night falling to Saugeen Shores AE 7-3.
The score was not a true indication of the game as the locals played even with the guests, except on the score board. Logan Burgess netted a pair in the loss with Sam Lawrence cashing in the other. Assists went to Burgess, Mitch Hooper and Colton Cook.
In the other games in the round robin series, Durham hosted Shallow Lake on Feb. 14, coming out on the short end of a 6-1 loss. Dylan Pust potted Durham's lone marker, with assists going to Burgess and Ryan Melanson.
Feb. 22 had the Huskies at home to Wiarton. The locals hit the ice with winning in mind but when the dust had settled they where on the short end of a 4-3 score. Burgess had a pair of tallies, with Lawrence netting the other. Assists went to Cook with 2, Burgess, M. Hooper, Blake Nelson and Travis Hooper.
The next stop for Durham was Feb. 27 in Southampton against Saugeen Shores AE. A short staffed, 9 player, Huskie squad put up a tremendous effort but ran out of gas in the third, giving up 3 late goals, falling 8-3. Burgess potted the hat-trick for Durham, with Cook picking up 2 assists.
The next night the Huskies were in Shallow Lake, again the short staffed squad put a valient effort but were not rewarded, as they fell 3-2. Burgess and Nate Duguay scored for Durham, with Cook, Lawrence and Cody Hollands drawing the assists.
The first of March, the third game in 3 days, had a full staffed Durham in Wiarton. A solid effort all round ended in a 5-4 overtime loss. The Huskies deserved a better result as they were the better club for the majority of the contest. All watched in disbelief as a late 2 goal lead evaporated on a couple of bad bounces. In overtime, after missing several quality chances another funny bounce ended up in Durham's net. Scoring for the Huskies was Cook with 2, T. Hooper and Duguay. Assists went to Burgess with 2, Hollands, Lawrence, Melanson and Pust. Team members who contributed but not on the score sheet were, Dalton Stone, always solid on defense and good at starting many rushes that resulted in scoring chances, Parris Radan playing strong on the wing, checking and getting the puck to teammates for scoring ooportunities, Luke Aulthouse, our last line of defense, holding off many attacks, playing solid in goal, giving his team an opportunity to win.
The Huskies will now prepare for their year ending tournament in Goderich on Monday and Tuesday March 16-17.
