The Play-offs are proving to be fruitless for the Peewee Huskies as they fell 2 games to 0 to Wiarton in the first round of WOAA group play downs.
Tuesday night in Durham saw the hosts bounced out of round 1 of the WOAA group play downs. Wiarton overcame a 2 to 1 third period deficit, scoring 4 unanswered goals, enroute to a 5-2 win taking the best of 3 series in 2 games. Durham hit the ice with purpose and were rewarded with the opening goal, when Logan Burgess buried in a pass from Dylan Pust and Ryan Melanson. The lead was erased late in the first and the game remained tied until Parris Radan sqeezed a pass from Dalton Stone past the keeper, late in period 2. The third period started with the locals creating several quality chances but no luck as Wiarton's netminder slammed the door. That was the inspiration the guests needed to launch their come back, as they evened the game 5 minutes in, took the lead at the halfway mark and added two late insurance markers, taking advantage of Durham pressing for the equalizer. All of the homeside should be commended for putting in a winning effort in the tough loss and showing good sportsmanship with a congratulatory handshake after the game. Durham will now take the weekend off as they await to hear who their next opponent will be in round 2 of the WOAA group play downs.
