A Trip into Willie Country proves positive.
1st game of round robin play vs Wiarton
February 14th vs Wiarton:
Wiarton, the home of the scandalous gopher whose prediction of an extended winter has already raised the ire of many. It only took about two shifts to move that ire from the furry little rodent to the opposition in today's match. Always aggressive and in your face, Wiarton soon educated the Huskies on keeping your heads up, especially in front of the net. I guess they don't celebrate Valentines Day in the Bruce Penninsula? Oh well, we learned. It took us a somewhat longer time period to figure out their defense and goaltending though, and aside from the third period, the game was within a goal and could have went either way early.
Durham's work in the corners would pay off with their first goal at the 2:34 mark. Colton Stoddart dug the puck out of corner and passed it out front to Noah Johnson, who eluded the Wiarton goalie for a 1-0 lead. The lead was short lived however as Wiarton's Josh Urbshott would tie it 29 seconds later. The game would stay tied until the four minute mark of the second when Jeffrey Aljoe picked up a rebound and slid it home. Johnson would get an assist on this go ahead goal, which proved to be the winner. The second would end 2-1 in favour of Durham and in the third it was all Huskies. Just a minute in, Brady Becker would score his first of three, assisted by Josh Jenkins and Dylan
'Where's my mouthguard' McDonald. Bryden
"Snipes' Ridgeway would connect for the next two goals, the first unassisted and the next from Becker & Austin Hutcheson. Josh Jenkins continued his hard work in the corners and in front of the net, and was rewarded with Durham's sixth goal. Mr. Aljoe Jr. assisted on this fourth goal of the period. Not done yet, Nic Whiteside from Stoddart & Hutcheson added another before Becker scored his second and third of the game. Assisting Becker was Jenkins and Aljoe and Whiteside and McDonald. The game ended in favor of the Huskies, 9-1.
Paw Prints: A notable three week layof was evident in the first couple of periods. The legs and hands finally reappeared in the third. Landon Holloway called in Sick and did not make the trip north. I heard he was still recuperating from the Superbowl? :) Good luck tomorrow boys, I'll be thinking about ya. PS, when you do your cheer before the game......do this........
